MGA'S HISTORY

MGA Research Corporation has a history in which we take great pride. What began as a $1,000 investment and a 900 square foot office space in western New York has turned into an organization serving the worldwide transportation industry with multiple locations around the globe.

The three founders, Patrick Miller, Jim Greene, and Rudy Arendt (the “M”, “G”, and “A”), each had their own interests and skills that set the stage for their roles at MGA. These three engineers met while working at Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory (now Calspan Corporation) in the late 1960’s and began our company in early 1977.

Pat Miller received his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics from Michigan State University. At Calspan, he was the assistant Department Head for Transportation Safety Research. One of his more important projects was the Research Safety Vehicle (or RSV) which was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation and was a joint activity between Calspan and Chrysler Corporation. The vehicle was designed with many of the safety features commonly seen in today’s vehicles, including crush zones, advanced braking systems, automatic restraints and airbags.

Jim Greene obtained an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo and was involved in various crashworthiness research studies being conducted at Calspan.

Rudy Arendt completed his degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Rudy’s main expertise was in the area of instrumentation and test systems. One of his major activities was the installation and commissioning of a full-scale crash test facility. This facility is still in operation at Calspan.

Jim Greene left the company to pursue other interests in the late 1970’s and Rudy Arendt passed away in February 2006. Today, our associates very strongly identify with the hard work and ethics that our founders instilled into our culture. MGA is recognized worldwide as one of the leading independent providers of engineering consulting, testing services, and facilities/equipment. With U.S. locations in New York, Michigan, Wisconsin and South Carolina, as well as international locations in South Korea, India, Japan, and China, MGA Research has truly become a global organization.

Our tradition of improving and expanding our services and products will carry on into the future as we continually offer our customers the very best in knowledge, service, and testing technologies.

MGA’s goal has always been to provide customers with superior testing capabilities matched with outstanding service through constant evaluation of industry trends and needs. Our associates are eager to build on the past history and excited to meet the challenges of the future.
