Advancing Vibration and Acoustic Testing

Dec 10, 2025

At MGA Research Corporation, we understand that sound and vibration play a critical role in how customers experience a vehicle. Whether it’s the subtle rattle behind a dashboard, the hum of an appliance, or the structural durability of an aerospace component, unwanted noise and vibration can impact perceived quality just as strongly as safety or performance.

For decades, MGA has been at the forefront of vibration; Buzz, Squeak, and Rattle (BSR); and Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) testing. By combining advanced facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, and an experienced engineering team, we provide precise, reliable, and forward-looking solutions that help manufacturers refine their products and exceed customer expectations.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

Our Michigan facility is dedicated to delivering advanced acoustic testing for both automotive and aerospace components and full vehicles. At the core of this capability are multiple state-of-the-art anechoic chambers, including a full drive-in semi-anechoic chamber with a low 27 dB(A) noise floor. These environments allow us to measure full-vehicle acoustic properties with precision and apply psychoacoustic methods that simulate how drivers and passengers perceive sound in real-world conditions.

To meet the growing demand in the Southeast’s transportation sector, MGA has expanded its vibration and acoustic testing capabilities at our Greer, South Carolina facility. The lab is equipped with multiple electrodynamic (ED) shaker tables, some with capacities up to 14,000 lbs. These tables can simulate the real-world conditions parts experience during operation or transit. By integrating environmental chambers, components can also be exposed to extreme thermal and humidity conditions, ensuring testing reflects the most demanding scenarios.

Tools and Technologies That Redefine Testing

Our teams are equipped with a full suite of instrumentation for vibration, sound, and durability studies. For a full scope of MGA’s instrumentation, visit [link to vibration landing page]:

  • Electrodynamic vibration shakers replicate real-world driving and transit conditions.
  • Vibration Research controllers and software ensure that we provide the best possible data to meet our customers' requests.
  • Modal analysis systems that reveal resonant frequencies and dynamic behaviors of structures.
  • High-speed cameras for precise root cause identification of noise and vibration sources.
  • Advanced data acquisition and processing through platforms like ArtemiS Suite, enabling visualization of damping percentages, natural frequencies, and dynamic animations of component modes.

Seeing Sound in Real Time: The SeeSV-S206

A hexagon shaped device with a hole in the centerAI-generated content may be incorrect.

One of the most innovative additions to MGA’s toolkit is the SeeSV-S206 acoustic camera. Unlike traditional equipment, this tool visualizes sound sources in real time, overlaying directional noise data directly onto a video feed.

A person holding a black object in front of a computerAI-generated content may be incorrect.

With 96 MEMS microphones, high-resolution imaging, and advanced background noise filtering, the SeeSV-S206 can pinpoint even subtle BSR issues with remarkable accuracy. Its ability to provide selective listening ensures fast, non-contact root cause analysis that saves development time and reduces costly redesigns.

This technology is particularly powerful when paired with our environmental and vibration testing systems. By integrating acoustic imaging into thermal cycling, vibration events, or dynamic road simulations, MGA engineers can provide a complete picture of how and when an issue occurs, and most importantly, how to eliminate it.

Applications Across Industries

While automotive development continues to be a major driver, our vibration and acoustic expertise extends well beyond. MGA’s testing supports a wide range of industries, including:

  • Automotive OEMs and suppliers refining cabin quietness and interior component reliability.
  • Bus and rail manufacturers seeking durability and passenger comfort.
  • Aerospace customers requiring precise simulation of in-service vibration environments.
  • Consumer goods and appliance makers reducing operational noise for everyday products.

Providing Comprehensive and Innovative Solutions

By integrating psychoacoustics, real-time sound visualization, advanced modal analysis, and environmental durability testing, we provide customers with a comprehensive picture of product performance.

From Michigan to South Carolina and beyond, our engineers partner closely with OEMs and suppliers to deliver solutions that improve product quality, accelerate development, and enhance end-user satisfaction.
