Now Open: MGA’s Expanded Materials Testing Laboratory in Troy, Michigan
MGA is proud to announce the expansion of its Materials Testing Laboratory at our Troy, Michigan facility, strengthening our ability to support the automotive, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing industries throughout Metro Detroit and the Midwest. Paired with our recent expansion in Mexico, we look forward to continuing to serve our local customers.
This expansion builds on MGA’s decades-long expertise in materials testing, providing OEMs and suppliers with local access to ISO 17025–accredited materials testing services designed to support safety, durability, and regulatory compliance.

As the automotive and aerospace industries continue to evolve with today’s technological advances, it is crucial for the safety, durability and reliability of materials to do the same. At its core, the type of materials used and how they interact to enhance the occupants' experience within a vehicle is key to help reduce costly redesigns and delays. Whether testing for tensile strength or flammability properties, MGA’s comprehensive testing provides customers with solutions that meet the evolving needs of the industry.
The MGA Advantage: Our Testing Capabilities

MGA’s materials testing process is designed to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with regulatory protocols, standards, and FMVSS testing requirements. Some of the top testing that is currently supported at our Troy facility include:
- Fogging (Gravimetric & Photometric): Gravimetric and photometric testing of materials to confirm the amount of fumed residue released by the materials while at higher temperatures on the inner glass panels.
- Environmental Exposure Testing: Assessing how materials respond to humidity resistance, thermal cycling, and heat aging.
- Physical Property Testing: Utilizing the Universal Testing Machine (UTM) for tensile testing, compression testing, and flexural strength testing.
- Abrasion & Wear Testing: Conducting Taber abrasion, scratch and mar, and other durability assessments to determine material longevity.
- Odor Evaluation: Subjective evaluation of how a material smells with a change in time and temperature.
Quality Assurance & Certification
As an ISO-17025:2017 Mechanical Test Laboratory, MGA facilities uphold the highest standards in materials testing and beyond. This accreditation allows our customers to test with confidence through test accuracy, repeatability, and traceability. Our rigorous validation procedures include:
- Specimen Preparation & Conditioning – Ensuring test samples are properly prepared according to customer needs.
- Test Execution – Conducting precise and repeatable assessments.
- Data Analysis & Reporting – Providing detailed insights including test observations and quality data and photographic evidence.
- Customer Review & Approval – Collaborating to confirm results meet expectations.
