Quick Data on the Fly with MGA’s Scanning Technologies

May 19, 2026

Scanning technologies have dramatically increased in the last few years. It is a regular occurrence that customers need immediate 3D scan results even on the plant floor.  At our facility in Troy, Michigan, our ISO-17025:2017 accreditation includes field testing that allows MGA to send test personnel and specific equipment off-site to a customer plant, lab, or office. Additional information on MGA’s scanning capabilities can be found in a previous article, as well as on our website.

Within MGA’s customer base, the most common off-site test is 3D scanning. The device’s versatility and the speed with which scan data is converted into usable reports are very fast. The scanner’s accuracy is 200 microns.

Recently, MGA supported in-line testing of newly produced parts at a local stamping facility. The customer faced a problem in which standard visual quality checks did not sufficiently distinguish bad parts from good ones, so additional data was needed to identify the root cause of the erroneous parts. Determining the frequency of occurrences was the priority, and once that was established, a closer examination of the areas most affected during the stamping process was conducted.
